A loan on the North Shore Crowd Funding board just reached 100%. Here is exactly how the money changes hands — and how it comes back.

Nobody collects money on behalf of anybody else. Each lender pays the borrower directly. One person gathering everyone's money and passing it along would be pooling third-party funds to lend — that is regulated activity in Hawaii (captación), and it would also put every lender's money in one person's hands. We do not do it that way.

What we do instead: the largest backer becomes the Handoff Coordinator. They schedule the meeting, bring the paperwork, and check each payment off the list. They never touch anyone else's money.

The six steps · Los seis pasos

  1. The app announces it · La app lo anuncia The loan shows FULLY FUNDED with the agreed terms, and everyone — borrower and every backer — gets a WhatsApp/SMS with the coordinator's name and number.

  2. Coordinator opens a group · El coordinador abre un grupo One WhatsApp group: the borrower and all backers. Agree a day, a time, and a public place in Haleiwa. Saturday at the Mercado (The Wall) works well because everyone is already there; the borrower's own business is the next best.

  4. Each lender pays the borrower directly · Cada prestamista paga directo At the table, one at a time: lender sends their own amount to the borrower by Venmo/Zelle Móvil (or hands cash). The borrower says out loud that it arrived and the coordinator ticks it off. Six lenders means six separate transfers — that is the point.

  5. Sign the agreement · Firmen el acuerdo One agreement per lender: borrower signs, that lender signs. Each keeps a copy. Photo every signed page into the group chat so there is a shared record.

  6. The clock starts · Arranca el plazo The borrower posts a line for the village, and repayment begins on the agreed date. Each month the borrower pays each lender their own share directly by Venmo/Zelle — same rule as the handoff, in reverse. When the last payment lands, anyone reports it on repay.html and the whole village celebrates it.

If something goes wrong · Si algo sale mal

A missed month is not a disaster — it is a conversation. The borrower tells the group before the date, not after. Lenders decide together whether to extend. Nothing here is enforced by the app: the signed agreement is between those two people, and Hawaiian law caps what any lender may charge (HRS ch. 478 de Hawái), so no penalty interest games.

The borrower acknowledges receiving the amount above directly from this lender, and promises to repay it directly to this lender on the schedule stated. This is an agreement between these two people only. OahuHQ.com is a bulletin board: it never received, held, pooled or transferred any of this money and is not a party to this agreement.
